According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, patients who received text messages over the course of six months managed to reduce their cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI).

While text messages do not directly impact your health, they do remind you to complete daily habits that can lead to long-term health, such as taking your blood pressure medication, going for a walk, not smoking and eating healthier meals. These daily encouragements help form daily decisions and keep bigger goals in mind.

Supporters of the applications have said that it isn’t the content of the messages that counts but the support offered by the system. For more information, read the complete article here.
