Look Out For “Long COVID”

February is American Heart Month and while COVID remains a threat, bringing awareness to heart health seems more important than ever.

Individuals who have had mild or even no symptoms of COVID are experiencing what’s referred to as “long COVID.” This is when new or ongoing symptoms, such as difficulty breathing, coughing, or muscle pain can last for months.

An analysis published in the European Heart Journal shows that mild and moderate COVID-19 infections can cause long-term issues for the heart, such as changes to the left and right ventricular function.

The long-term effects of COVID are still being studied but we do know that whether the infection was severe or mild, your heart health should be addressed. Let this month be a reminder to put your heart health first.
