How much do you know about the aorta?
An aortic aneurysm is the enlargement of a section of the aorta. The main artery of the body, the aorta carries oxygen-rich blood to the rest of the body from the heart.
When sections of the aorta become overstretched or weak, the aorta can burst, resulting in severe bleeding that can quickly lead to death.
Because they don’t often produce symptoms, aortic aneurysm are difficult to detect. Cardiologists recommend annual check-ups to make sure that the heart is functioning properly.
“Watchful waiting” or surgery are often the choices when an aortic aneurysm is detected.
Don’t let a medical emergency happen to you. Visit your cardiologist annually to keep your heart healthy.
