Cholesterol Test – Frequently Asked Questions

Due to the nature of your cholesterol test, you may need to fast for nine to twelve hours and only drink water before your visit. Consult with your doctor before the test to make sure.

Stress Test – Frequently Asked Questions

If you are taking aspirin with Dipyridamole, stop this medicine three days before the exam. Within 24 hours of your test NO CAFFEINE
NO coffee, including decaffeinated or tea/herbal tea of any kind
NO colas or soft drinks, including those labeled caffeine-free
NO chocolate (candy, cakes, pies, cocoa, white chocolate, etc.)
NO aspirin products containing caffeine
NO Dipyridamole
NO Theophylline
NO beta-blockers unless specifically told to continue these medications by your ordering provider or our staff

DO NOT EAT OR DRINK 4 HOURS BEFORE YOUR TEST. (This includes gum and breath mints.) DIABETIC MEDICATIONS should not be taken the morning of your test, but please bring your diabetic medicines with you. If you take long acting insulin in the evening, take half your usual dose the evening before the test.

Ultrasound Tests (Transcranial Doppler Ultrasound, Renal Artery Ultrasound) – Frequently Asked Questions

For at least two hours before the test, you shouldn’t drink coffee or smoke, and you shouldn’t wear any jewelry or other items around your neck that might get in the way of the ultrasound waves. Also, you should wear clothes that are relaxed and make it easy for you to access your head and neck. Make sure to tell your doctor or nurse before the test if you are taking any medicines. Depending on the type of ultrasound, before the test, you might be told to drink a few glasses of water to empty your stomach. This can help the pictures look better.
