Manhattan Cardiology

Atrial fibrillation (AF), or irregular heartbeat, affects 33.5 million people globally and is associated with a higher risk of stroke and death.

Recent studies show that women with AF have a 12% higher mortality rate than their male counterparts with AF. These studies have encouraged doctors to perform more aggressive treatment of risk factors in women with AF.

If you are a woman with any risk factors for heart disease and/or who has been diagnosed with AF, be sure to schedule regular appointments with your cardiologist to prevent a medical emergency. Risks of heart disease include smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, diabetes and a family history of heart disease.
