Do you frequently wake up with a dry mouth or sore throat? Do you have morning headaches or feel sleepy most of the day? These are just a few signs that you may be suffering from sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is a condition in which your airway gets blocked repeatedly during sleep, causing you to stop breathing for short amounts of time. Many people may not realize it, but sleep apnea can also severely affect your heart health.

Sleep apnea can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, depression, and other ailments. It is also estimated that half of the patients with sleep apnea have atrial fibrillation (AFib) – a dangerous heart rhythm that, if untreated, can lead to a stroke.

Sleep issues are not to be taken lightly as they can lead to serious health issues. If you think you may have sleep apnea, schedule an appointment for a test. Any patient diagnosed with moderate to severe apnea will also be screened for AFib.
